Spring is about to push through, marking the end of a cold and somewhat depressing winter. This week I have Spring Break, an excellent moment to catch my breath and to reflect upon the previous weeks. In doing so, I am happy to conclude that the Spring Semester runs smoothly, although being challenging at the same time.
This Semester I am taking three classes: Fundamentals of Policy Processes, International Relations Theory, and Calculus for Social Sciences. The Calculus class equips me with the math skills for advanced Microeconomics that is scheduled for next year. The two theoretical classes provide me with the insights and theoretical toolboxes for understanding the public policy processes in the national and international contexts. These insights are more or less immediately applicable to my daily life. For instance, when I turn on the news, open the Economist to read about the latest developments in the international arena, and watch 'Buitenhof' (Dutch political discussion program) every Sunday morning.
In addition to my classes, I have a Research Assistantship with Prof. Robert Rosenberger. Together we are working on post-phenomenological explanations for driving deficiency and using a cell phone while driving. The research findings of various sources seem to converge on the conclusion that it may not be wise to use a cell phone while driving your car. Depending upon the circumstances, the risk of an accident may increase fourfold if you are conversing, either hands-free or hand-held there is no difference, and may even increase eightfold when you are texting; see PBS News Hour fragment: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/video/module.html?mod=0&pkg=28072009&seg=6 Hence, you will definitely not catch me operating a cell phone behind the wheel.

Leuk van je te horen!! Hier staat de lente voornamelijk op de kalender!
En niet meer bellen terwijl ik rijd?! Hoe moet het dan met m'n sociale netwerk?

Lente breekt hier nu ook eindelijk een beetje door. De hoeveelheid sneeuw deze winter was episch Veel succes met de vakken!

Dam ouwe, dat wordt dus niks in de zakenwereld hoor ik al Niet bellen in de auto is voor mij al een onmogelijkheid geworden.
Gelukkig rij ik dan wel buiten de drukke tijden op de weg scheelt dat nog wat?
Ik blijf het toch een interresante combinatie vinden van vakken die je volgt, echt goed bezig jongen!

Hey Victor,
Nice that the spring has started. Here in Paris it's getting warmer here too. The research on mobile phone safety is interesting, and a fourfold increase in risk is surprising!
